RMS Titanic

After seeing the movie a night to remember in the early 60’s, I decided to paint a series of four-funnel liners, and this work shows the White Star Liner Titanic after leaving Quay 44 and entering the river Test. Minutes later she almost collided with the liner New York (second left), and some said this was a bad omen. I have tailored reality somewhat in completing the construction work on the end of the quay, but extensive research was needed to replicate the smaller vessels in the scene, as well as the prevailing weather conditions on 10th April 1912, five days before disaster.

Acrylic on canvas.
