Deutschland

Seen here leaving New York circa 1903. The second German four funnel liner with her elegant paired stacks, belonging to the Hamburg America Line (HAPAG). Launched in 1900, she won the prestigious Blue Riband in 1903, the award for the fastest time travelled between Sandy Hook in the USA and the Eddystone lighthouse in the UK. Her interiors were the height of opulence, but she suffered from vibration, especially at the stern, much to the annoyance of passengers berthed aft. She survived World War 1 and was finally laid up in 1924 and scrapped in 1925 in Hamburg.
